Norwood has partnered with rural communities for over 70 years, and we’ve grown to be one of the best known names in New Zealand agriculture today.

We’re New Zealand’s leading supplier of a wide range of new and used farm machinery, we offer service and support to keep farmers moving, and we strive to provide industry leading solutions to help NZ farmers and growers take their premium produce to the world.

In order to deliver on our vision - exceptional solutions for every customer every time - we are looking for an experienced small engine mechanic to join our Morrinsville Dealership team and help make it happen.

You will service and repair lawn/turf care products including ride on lawn mowers, compact tractors, weed eaters, brush cutters, trimmers, and small engines. There will be variety galore and you will also have the opportunity to work on other agricultural equipment as time and needs arise. You will be required to work independently on customers’ properties when called out as necessary.

You will have access to our dedicated technical support team, ongoing training, and parts availability as we have the biggest agricultural Parts Warehouse in New Zealand.

To succeed in this role you will have:

  • A relevant trade qualification and/or experience
  • A full Drivers Licence
  • Knowledge of small engine structures and fuel systems
  • Familiarity with lifestyle equipment and its servicing and operating requirements
  • Good computer skills
  • The ability to embrace change, a willingness to learn new skills, and a positive, can do attitude

If you don't have loads of experience working with this equipment we are open to offering this role as an apprenticeship to the right candidate. A Norwood apprenticeship provides you with up to four years of on-the-job training, equipping you with an NZQA approved New Zealand Certificate in Outdoor Power Equipment (Level 3&4) qualification. Upon completion of your apprenticeship, you will be a qualified tradesperson in an industry challenged by skill shortages.

To be considered for an Apprenticeship you will ideally have achieved a minimum of NCEA Level 2 and may have completed a pre-trade course or have work experience in a related mechanical/trade field. A full driver’s licence is preferred but you must hold a restricted class 1 licence as a minimum.

Apprenticeships involve problem solving, effective communication, an enquiring mind and determination. You need to be a hands-on type of person who likes working with machinery. You may be finishing school, or an adult looking to retrain or learn a new trade - if you’re keen and willing to learn you will receive a well-rounded introduction to our business. From there it’s up to you!

In return Norwood will give you:

  • Competitive hourly rate including free medical insurance and overtime
  • Staff purchasing benefits and company banking options
  • Full uniform and PPE supplied
  • Multiple career pathways within our nationwide dealership network or national support office
  • The opportunity to be a part of a world class company with a secure future right here in New Zealand
  • Gain new skills working on a large range of different equipment, including petrol, diesel, battery
  • The opportunity to digress or develop your career into heavy diesel if desired

Additional benefits should you gain an apprenticeship with us include:

  • On-the-job training supported by our National Training Centre in Palmerston North
  • Access to a trained Mentor(s) throughout your apprenticeship
  • Regular pay increases on achievement of credits during your apprenticeship journey
  • Nationally and internationally recognised NZQA qualification
  • $5,000 tool advance

If you want to be part of the future of New Zealand’s ag industry and make things happen, then we’d love to hear from you!
